RENAISSANCE SHOWCASE

Renaissance meaning, re-birth, revival and new interest in something. We feel that is our responsibility to Inspire, Encourage and Motivate our peers. We realize that the young people of our generation are blessed with many different artistic Gifts & Talents, in which the majority goes unnoticed.
There are three of us in our group and we aim to host a talent showcase that has a strong theme of Purpose, Positivity and Productivity within young people. We are all students. Between us we have been part of several community organisations on a voluntary basis from the Haringey Community Police Consultative Group, The Young Black Positive Advocates, The Haringey Peace Alliance, we are currently on the young people’s partnership board for Connexions North London and we have won a London Young Persons Peace Award. We have also organised and been part of numerous different arts projects.

We started Renaissance because we wanted to combine our love for the community with our love of the arts. In our showcases there are a range of visual and performing arts such as singing, dancing, rapping, comedy and drama. We aim for our performers to take their art/talent out of its conventional setting in performance spaces and theatres and into more unconventional settings; for example celebrations, seminars, private & corporate functions.

Through Renaissance we want to provide a platform for young people to show their talents to an audience of peers and professionals. Renaissance is ‘Set Apart’ from the usual ‘Talent Show’ because not only do we showcase exceptional talent but we support our artistes to become Successful, Significant & Strong Artists.

We have had two annual shows to date in Edmonton; we have also mentored two groups’ young people in their own events, in association with Renaissance Showcase.
