CHERPS (12A)
A Film By Kolton Lee

Starring: Clint Dyer, Felix Dexter, Ellen Thomas, Kay Bridgeman & guest Star Martin Offiah
*Special guest attendance by the cast of Cherps & additional celebrities

CHERPS is a fresh and charming romantic comedy; one that draws equally on traditions of British story telling as well as that of New York indie filmmaking.

REGGIE is a 30-ish west London, second generation, black British geezer. He likes to live on the fly, ducking and diving and avoiding work whenever possible. He also likes to cherps women. In black British street slang ‘to cherps’ is ‘to chat up’ or ‘to flirt’ with women.

REGGIE’s dilemma in the film arrives when his long time baby mother, SANDRA, puts the clamps on him; she wants him to settle down and stop running with his homeboys. This of course puts REGGIE into a tailspin. Settle down?! Make a commitment?! These are big concepts; they need a lot of thought.

And so over the next seven days REGGIE goes on something of an existential journey into the meaning of commitment, the meaning of happiness…the meaning of life, no less.

ADDITIONAL NOTES:
Please note Kush Community Arts & Media Development is a constituted & not-for-profit voluntary community organisation.

Kush will donate part of the events procedures to youth organisation ‘Renaissance’ that organise regular youths showcases at various places including local North London youth clubs.

They will use the cash input to help young artiste do whatever is needed to further their careers, whether its additional training, marketing, clothing or even organising new local talent development shows.

Renaissance is run by three young ladies: Sabba Kerr-Armstrong, Janay Cochrane & Zalika Miller if you would like to support them in one way or another or just get further info then please call Janay on 07904678 103 or Sabba on 07949 928 256.
Website: www.renaissanceshowcase.com

With all the negativity (most justifiable) over the last 2 years surrounding young people, guns, knives and gangs, Kush believes it’s important not to forget the good-natured, progressive & talented youths in our communities. They have been completely overshadowed and tarred with the same bad brush, which we believe is hurting the community as a whole.

We feel the time has come to show our love, support and nurture those young people who want to be positive role models in their communities, this is the main reason why Kush has decided to give back to the community and organise this event.

May 2008 is the 10-year anniversary for Kush Promotions. Kush Promotions was launched in May 1998 at the old Curzon Cinema in Turnpike Lane, London, N8, and was originally set up by founder Marlon Palmer to showcase & create a platform for films depicting the Black cultural experience.
