DETAR X - PROFILE

David Lawrence (born January 31, 1986 in Tottenham, North London) is an up and coming Hip Hop artist. He adopted the stage name Detar X in his mid teens and has gone on to use it throughout his recording career.

Biography
Detar X always had an ear and love for Hip Hop music from a very young age. He wrote his very first verse at the tender age of 6, but nobody would have guessed he would later take up rapping as a profession. At 15 he began writing again and would spit the occasional verse in the school playground amongst his peers.

It wasn’t until 2004 that he actually did his first live solo performance at a local talent show. Despite the pressure and intimidation, Detar scooped the 1st place prize and was given the opportunity to record his first track. The track was recorded, circulated and given critical acclaim. The anti-gun song entitled ‘Put Tha Gat Down’ allowed Detar to perform in his hometown of Tottenham at their annual Carnival and that you could say was the defining moment in his career. He continued to write and has appeared on numerous community albums as well as performing throughout London.

In 2005, he joined up with an old school friend to appear as an artist under his management/production company Dirty D ProdUKtionz which later went on to be renamed Gifted Soundz ProdUKtionz. As one of the more senior members of the company, Detar X brought along his laid back, distinct and dynamic skills along with some vital experience. Since joining he has gained exposure on a wider scale and has grown as an all-round entertainer along the way. As one of the leading artists at the company, a lot of responsibility has been handed to him. During this time Detar’s songwriting skills have blossomed and become more creative, allowing him to write songs for other artists in different genres of music.

In 2006 the Let’s Be Positive Youth Group were recipients of The Philip Lawrence Award for their work and contribution to making changes in the community. During the summer of 2007 Detar made history when he appeared in the first ever show staged at the multi-million Bernie Grant Performing Arts Centre in North London. Since being involved in the industry Detar has worked with artistes likes of Ty, Ms. Dynamite and Akala amongst others on various projects.

Detar X is currently preparing to record his debut solo album.
